CFS Brooklyn

Submitted by Susan Roane, PhD, FIPA

Psychoanalytic Brooklyn has offered a wonderful slate of seminars in 2021. As the year draws to a close, we take this opportunity to thank our presenters and all who participated in these online seminars. CJ Churchill and invited guest Lynn Chancer led a discussion of Lynn’s book, Everyday Sadomasochism. Susan Finkelstein and Jamieson Webster gave a wonderful presentation of The Claustrum, using the 1942 film Cat People as a launchpad for discussion.

The Spring brought a seminar entitled The Impasse, with Jules Owen and Ann Rudovsky, including a discussion of case material. This Fall, Susan Finkelstein and Jamieson Webster presented an encore seminar, this one on Agoraphobia, again using a film as a jumping off point for discussion. What has set apart Psychoanalytic Brooklyn as a seminar series has been the combination of case presentation with active participation by those who attended, making these seminars a vibrant learning experience.

The Psychoanalytic Brooklyn committee, chaired by Susan Roane, welcomed two new committee members this year: Jules Owen and Chris Kido. We look forward to seminars this winter featuring clinical work with children, as well as a seminar in February entitled Dyads, triads and the impingement of racism: a case presentation with two commentaries”, with Mike Krass, Marie Murphy and Justine Kallas-Reeves. As we plan seminars for the Spring, we invite anyone interested in presenting to get in touch to share ideas.
