Judy K. Eekhoff, PhD FIPA presented “Truth and Lies: On the disruption of relationship and the perversion of passion” at NPSI’s March 16, 2022, Pre-EBOR Scientific Meeting. Judy presented “The Outer Reaches of Inner Space” at the Regional Bion Conference, Los Angeles, CA, online in April. In May, she presented “Thoughts on Infantile Trauma & Analytic Intervention” through Calabash Online Course, South Africa. Judy’s article “The Unwelcome Child and the Acceptance of New Ideas” has been accepted for publication in the American Journal of Psychoanalysis for 2022.

On March 6, 2022, she presented “Transformations transformed: On Bion’s contemplations in Chapter 9” to an online meeting of the Regional Bion Symposium (Joseph Aguayo and Agnes Regeczkey Co-Directors). In April she presented “On Grotstein’s ‘truth’ in Bion’s theory of ‘O’” at NPSI’s April 20, 2022, Pre-EBOR Scientific Meeting.

Rikki Ricard, MA FIPA presented “Can a liar be psychoanalyzed?” at NPSI’s June 15, 2022, Pre-EBOR Scientific Meeting.

Drew Tillotson, PsyD FIPA is chapter author of “A special boy: Melancholic terrors of awakening the erotic man” in Routledge’s Braving the Erotic Field in the Psychoanalytic Treatment of Children and Adolescents (2022). Drew presented “Body as Enemy: The Risk of Coming Alive” at PINC’s Symposium on February 26, 2022.

A warm welcome to new psychoanalyst members, Joanne della Penta, ATR-BC LMHC FIPA and Danny Gellersen, LICSW FIPA. They bring new energy and talent to NPSI from their analytic training and practice experience. We eagerly anticipate their participation in the NPSI community.

NPSI sponsored its thirtieth international Evolving British Object Relations Conference. Held online, the conference spanned two weekends in October. This year’s theme was Truth and Lies. The weekend of October 8-9 featured individual papers from six outstanding presenters: Judy K. Eekhoff, PhD FIPA (“Between the Real and the Imaginary: Truth and Lies in the Analytic Encounter”), Amber Nemeth, PhD (“Lying, the Liar, and the Lied to”), Stan Case, LCSW PhD (“Weaving our Webs – Untangling our Truths”), David M. Brooks, PhD FIPA (“Analytic Truth or Lies? Mystical knowing helps us tell the difference”), Elizabeth E. Berlese, PhD (“The Body Narrates: Finding ‘Truth’ in Psychoanalysis”), and Nancy C. Winters, MD FIPA (“A Home to the Lie: The Contemporary (Per)Version of Truth”). The weekend of October 15-16 featured keynote presentations by Nicola Abel-Hirsch (London) and Avner Bergstein (Tel Aviv).

Judy K. Eekhoff, PhD, FIPA is the author of a new book, Bion and Primitive Mental States: Trauma and the Symbolic Link, available through Routledge. “Judy Eekhoff takes the reader to the terrifying depths of unmentalized states of mind in certain patients that have suffered childhood abuse or neglect. Like Dante descending she takes us to the various early tiers of infantile suffering that remain unabated without words or concept and that frequently are triggered and erupt in adulthood,” writes David P. Jachim PhD FIPA, in his review of the book. David’s full review of Judy’s book can be found in a forthcoming issue of the American Journal of Psychoanalysis.

Carolyn Steinberg, MD FIPA, Elizabeth Wallace, FIPA, Paul Steinberg, FIPA and Darren Thompson, FIPA presented a panel on “Analytic Vitality: Analytic Vulnerability” to the Rio de Janeiro Psychoanalytic Society October 21.

On October 8th, Jeffrey Eaton, MA FIPA was one of three presenters at the LAISPS event, “Buddhism and Psychoanalysis: Resources for Realizing Our Full Humanity”. Jeff’s presentation was titled, “Welcoming Suchness: Notes on Realizing a Welcoming Mind.”

Samantha Good, MSW LICSW has won the first prize IPSO writing award for the IPA North American region. Sam will read her paper, “A Leap Without Faith: From Knowing to Being in Psychoanalysis”, at the 2023 IPSO Cartagena Congress.
