PCC: Publications, Awards, Important Speaking Engagements

On January 20, 2024, PCC hosted a conference on zoom featuring Stefano Bolognini, MD, FIPA from the Italian Psychoanalytic Society, reading his thoughtful and timely paper, “New Forms of Psychopathology in a Changing World: A Challenge for Psychoanalysis in the 21st Century. The paper was followed by a lively discussion.

On February 10, 2024, PCC’s 2023-2024 Infant Observation Conference: “Aesthetic Conflict in Infant Observation: The Developing Baby and the Developing Observer” included a fascinating presentation by Meg Harris Williams, of the Tavistock Clinic in London and PCC (honorary member). Two PCC post-seminar candidates, Natalie Hansen, PhD, and Ben Nakanishi, PsyD, provided experience-based data that furthered a lively discussion about the significance of infant observation as a method of learning in psychoanalytic training.

On May 18, 2024, PCC held a conference via zoom, “Transgender Youth and The Missing: Exploring the Use of Photographs in “Working Through” the Natal Body. Alessandra Lemma, PhD, FIPA, of the British Psychoanalytic Society read her thoughtful paper of the same name.

On June 15, 2024, from 9:00am to 12:00 pm (PDT), a joint conference with PCC and the Los Angeles Jung Institute will take place. The conference will be hybrid, on-line and in-person at the Jung Institute of Los Angeles. PCC Training and Supervising Analyst, Joseph Aguayo, PhD, FIPA will read his paper, “Toward a Jung/Bion Dialogue: W.R. Bion’s Reading of C.G. Jung’s Memories, Dreams and Reflections.” Ann Addison, PhD, Jungian Training and Supervising Analyst of the Society of Analytical Psychology from Essex, and Mark Winborn, PhD, Training and Supervising Jungian Analyst of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysis from Memphis, Tennessee will discuss Dr. Aguayo’s paper. On January 13, 2024, PCC Training and Supervising Analyst, Joseph Aguayo, PhD, FIPA, gave a seminar on “Bion’s Model of Container/Contained” for the Hellenic Psychoanalytic Society in Athens, Greece.

Joseph Aguayo, PhD, FIPA also co-taught with Training Analyst from London, Nicola Abel-Hirsch, FIPA, a seminar on Bion’s ‘Notes on Memory and Desire’ and his Brazilian Supervisions for the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society in Quebec, Canada on January 27, 2024.

On February 24, 2024, for the 9th Annual James Grotstein Lecture, Dr. Aguayo lectured on ‘Constructing a Bionian Narrative from the Work of Thomas Ogden,’ at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis.

Joseph Aguayo, Phd, FIPA, served as Co-Director of the Annual Regional Bion Symposium meeting that hosted British Training and Supervising Analyst, Angela Joyce, FIPA, and British Training Analyst, Nicola Abel-Hirsch, FIPA on the topic of Winnicott and Bion’s Analytic Technique in Marina Del Rey, California, April 4th through the 7th, 2024.

Dr. Aguayo, has a book publication due in July, 2024, titled Bion in the Consulting Room: An Implicit Method of Clinical Inquiry, (Routledge Bion Series), co-authored with Robert Hinshelwood, Sira Dermen and Nicola Abel-Hirsch.

Joseph Aguayo, PhD, FIPA will be an invited guest lecturer at the Roman Psychoanalytic Society on September 25, 2024. The topic of Bion’s analytic technique will be discussed in person with Italian Training and Supervising Analyst, Giuseppe Civitarese, MD, PhD, FIPA.

David Goldstein, PhD, FIPA, advanced to Training/Supervising Analyst.

Deborah Bilder, PhD, FIPA, will become PCC Dean in June of 2024.
