This workshop will be an introduction to four fundamental concepts in the teaching of Jacques Lacan and a consideration of how these four concepts may relate to comparable ideas in other psychoanalytic approaches. The four concepts in Lacan’s theory that we will address are the ‘object a’, the Other, the Signifier, and the Divided Subject. These will be related to general psychoanalytic notions such as the object relation, the Superego, representation, and the Ego/Id.

David Lichtenstein, PhD, is a faculty member in the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy and in private practice in New York City.
