The Transference Situation from Three Complementary Vertices by Rogelio Sosnik

In this Seminar we will consider the contribution of three important psychoanalysts whose work helps us to understand the complexities of the analytic situation as the place where the analyst and his/her patient develop their experiences.

    1. J. Laplanche, in his description of the “Transference as Created by the Analyst”, touches on the way that the analyst’s unconscious contributes to the establishment of the transference field.
    2. W. and M. Baranger define “The Analytic Field” as the place where there is a bi-personal contribution to the creation of the unconscious phantasy that is at the core of the dynamic of the psychoanalytic process. This study helps us to understand and work on the blind spots that are created by both members of the experience. These blind spots are called “the bulwark “of the analytic process.
    3. J. Bleger based his focus on the difference that exists between the psychoanalytic frame and the psychoanalytic process. In his “Psycho-Analysis of the Psycho-Analytic Frame”, he shows how the psychoanalytic frame becomes the depository of primitive parts of the patient personality. If this is not included in the analysis by the analyst, there is the danger that important material will get lost with dangerous future consequences.

Rogelio Sosnik, MD is a training and supervising analyst and faculty of the Contemporary Freudian Society and Buenos Aires Psychoanalytic Association. He is a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the IPA. He teaches in the Contemporary Freudian Society in New York and Washington and is a guest faculty at NYPSI, the New York Psychoanalytic Association. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Psychoanalysis. He has published papers in Argentina, Uruguay, Italy and the US, on the relationship between Ferenczi and Bion, on the British School, on the work of Bleger. He had written on the Ethical Texture of Psychoanalysis. For many years he had chaired a discussion group on the Clinical Value of Bion’s ideas at the meetings of the American Psychoanalytic Association. He is in private practice in New York City.
